The honor recognizes hospitals that demonstrate expertise in providing quality care and is designed to help consumers identify which hospitals offer better outcomes (e.g., fewer medical complications, fewer readmissions and higher survival rates) in the delivery of specialty care. Three-year Accreditation for Rehabilitation St. Jude Centers for Rehabilitation received a three-year accreditation (the most years possible) by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. St. Jude is just one of only two facilities in Southern California to receive accreditation in both spinal cord and brain injury (inpatient and outpatient), and one of three in the state to receive accreditation in outpatient stroke rehabilitation. (Accreditation is for 2016 - 2019) Accreditation by the NAPBC The St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center received a three year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to those centers committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. St. Jude is one of only two centers in Orange County to earn this recognition. Each breast center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach that encourages optimal care and the most effective treatment options available. (Accreditation is for 2016 - 2019) St. Jude Earns 2016 Gold Plus Award For the third year in a row, St. Jude Medical Center’s Stroke Center has been awarded the American Heart/American Stroke Association's 2016 Gold Plus Award, an advanced level of recognition that acknowledges St. Jude’s compliance with the Quality Measures within the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Program. Get With The Guidelines® is a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Heart Association/American Stroke Association scientific guidelines for patient treatment. Target Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Award St. Jude has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Quality Achievement Award for 2016. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized and research-based guidelines. Hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. St. Jude has also met the stringent guidelines to be distinguished an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. Physicians of Excellence Nearly 50 members of SJMC's medical staff were distinguished by the Orange County Medical Association as "2016 Physicians of Excellence." The annual program honors the region's outstanding physicians for their dedication to the profession and for their service to the community. Proud to Be Named Top Hospital U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals 2016-2017 recognized St. Jude Medical Center as one of California’s top hospitals. Among 134 hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, St. Jude ranked 7th in the region and 16th in the state, while also earning “High Performing Hospital” designations—in 11 areas, including: orthopedics, lung cancer surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, knee replacement, hip replacement, colon cancer surgery, urology, heart failure, COPD, heart bypass surgery and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Cardiac Surgery Ranks Among Nation's Best St. Jude Medical Center's cardiac surgery program received the top national ranking—three stars—from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The comprehensive rating system compares the quality of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) outcomes among hospitals across the country. There are just three hospitals in Southern California to receive this recognition and St. Jude is the only hospital in Orange County. This ranking is based on data results for measurement year 2015. Critical Care Unit Receives National Recognition St. Jude was recently honored with the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), a distinction earned by only 24 of California’s approximate 420 hospitals. The award distinguishes critical care units who exemplify excellence in clinical practice and utilize today’s best evidence-based practices to create superior outcomes for critically ill patients and families. St. Jude is one of only three hospitals in Orange County to be recognized by the AACN for providing this level of care.
