St. Jude earned 3-year accreditation by The Joint Commission
By meeting the highest national standards in patient safety and quality of care, St. Jude earned 3-year accreditation by The Joint Commission. The accreditation is based on the results of an unannounced on-site survey. Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation.
Excellence in Breast Care
The St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center is designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).This honor is given to hospitals demonstrating the highest quality in all areas of breast imaging, from mammography to stereotactic breast biopsy, and allows patients to more easily recognize which breast centers offer outstanding practice standards in imaging quality, technology, quality assurance, and staff qualifications.
Top Rating in Stroke Treatment
St. Jude Medical Center is one of a few hospitals in Southern California to be recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for excellence in emergency stroke care. The Target: Stroke Honor Roll recognizes hospitals who consistently achieve multiple, gold-standard time targets for emergency stroke, helping to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients suffering from ischemic strokes.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield named St. Jude Medical Center a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, knee and hip replacement, and spine surgery. The honor recognizes hospitals that demonstrate expertise in providing quality care and is designed to help consumers identify which hospitals offer better outcomes (e.g., fewer medical complications, fewer readmissions and higher survival rates) in the delivery of specialty care.
Specialty Center for Spine Surgery
St. Jude Medical Center received the UnitedHealth Premium specialty center designation, given to hospitals that meet or exceed nationally recognized standards in spinal surgery. St. Jude was recognized for its breadth and depth of care, quality outcomes, emergency care, and staff experience. The specialty center designation is intended to help members understand which hospitals meet rigorous quality criteria.
Cardiac Surgery Ranks Among Nation's Best
St. Jude Medical Center's cardiac surgery program received the top national ranking—three stars—from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The comprehensive rating system compares the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. Only about 12 percent of hospitals nationwide received a three-star rating, the highest quality category.
St. Jude Heritage Medical Group primary care sites have been recognized as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Physician Practice Connections. Level 3 designation is the highest achievable recognition for a medical group. NCQA's Patient Centered Medical Home program recognizes physician practices that prioritize the strengthening of the physician-patient relationship, coordinate care for patients across multiple settings, and engage in a team approach to improving patient care.
Physicians of Excellence
Nearly 40 physicians from St. Jude Medical Center were named by the Orange County Medical Association as Physicians of Excellence for their achievements.
Proud to Be the First
We're proud to be the first in California to receive STAR (Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation) certification, considered the gold standard in cancer rehabilitation. With specialized training through the STAR Program, our multidisciplinary team is uniquely qualified to understand and manage the effects of cancer and treatments on daily life.
Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award
St. Jude Medical Center was again awarded the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes St. Jude's success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
Breast Center Receives Level One Certification
The St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center has again received this prestigious certification from the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program (NQMBC), which tracks and measures quality performance in more than 30 indicators, from appointment scheduling and needle biopsy to surgical treatment and pathology results and more. The NQMBC is part of the National Consortium of Breast Centers.
