Meet Our Chief Nursing Officer
St. Jude nurses make a positive impact every day. As I look back on the
accomplishments in 2017 and beyond, it is truly remarkable to see the
On many occasions, I have been so fortunate to experience first-hand your
passion for nursing and compassion for caring, when I have seen:
• A nurse wrapping her arms around a family member as they described
through tears what she had meant to them.
• Nurses furthering their professional education, with books open
during lunch breaks, studying for a class that is part of a BSN, MSN,
or DNP or advanced certification.
• Nurses conducting research to complete a Clinical III project—
or to simply create superior patient care.
• Nurses inside the Simulation Lab perfecting their teamwork and
skills, or in small groups and interdisciplinary teams brainstorming how
to improve processes.
• Nurses with bowed heads holding the hand of a patient or a family member.
Amidst an ever-changing health care environment, our nurses remained steadfast
and focused on providing exceptional care and finding ways to innovate,
while offering patients and families life-changing compassion and kindness.
They not only pursued excellence, but helped create an environment in
which excellence is the only acceptable standard.
Over the past year, our nurses have achieved top decile patient care outcomes,
improved patient satisfaction, earned advanced degrees and certifications
at a rate far above the community average and participated in dozens of
improvement initiatives—all while bringing to life our motto “Our
Family Caring for your Family.” In the process, our nurses increasingly
positioned themselves as national leaders—at conferences, in research
literature, and in the sheer number of accreditations, honors and awards
earned. And while we continue to refine a highly-collaborative, quality-driven
culture, nurses made it clear that Magnet designation was just the beginning.
There is never a time that I walk through our ministry that I am not reminded
of what an honor it is to be part of the St. Jude Family, an honor I’m
grateful for every day.
