No One Dies Alone (NODA)

Providing compassionate companionship for the final hours, our "No One Dies Alone" program ensures that no patient at our hospital will ever die alone. This compassionate program gives the reassuring presence of a volunteer companion to dying patients who would otherwise have no one else and respite care for loved ones. With the support of the nursing staff, companions can help provide patients with the most valuable gift: a dignified death. St. Jude Medical Center believes in the intrinsic dignity of each person and makes sure someone is there to hold their hand or just keep them company in their final hours. For more information about this program, please contact Volunteer Services at 714-992-2878.

Condition H is an emergency call line for patients, and their family and friends. Family and friends play an important part in supporting a patient’s health and healing, and they may recognize subtle changes in their loved one, not apparent to the healthcare team. Please contact the nurse or manager if you have any questions or concerns.

Condition H should be called when the patient, their family or friend is:

  • Concerned about a noticeable change in the patient not recognized by the healthcare team.
  • Confused or have serious concerns, after speaking with a physician, nurse or member of the healthcare team about how care is being given, managed or planned.
  • A Condition H call will generate an immediate response from a highly trained team of experts to assess the patient’s condition. Call ext. 2158 from any hospital phone to initiate Condition H.
