ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Individuals often come to us having invested months, even years seeking the help of doctors, specialists and medications without relief. As their active lifestyles diminish and activities of daily life become more challenging, they experience feelings of loss, depression, anxiety, and hopelessness. While no two stories are the same, each one longs to be heard, to find a sense of hope and to once again engage in a more productive and meaningful life.
Our highly respected interdisciplinary team target the physical effects of chronic pain with an individualized program of physical and occupational therapy, nutrition, exercise, medication management, and pain-reducing strategies. Equally important, we offer compassion in helping patients with the emotional responses to pain—such as depression, anger and anxiety—through biofeedback, stress management, and individual and group counseling.
In partnership with family members, our experts help patients break the cycle of the chronic pain syndrome, structure their activity level and regain their quality of life. In fact, our comprehensiveness and effectiveness has made us one of California’s few accredited pain management programs. We are also the only accredited children and adolescent program in California for ages eight and up.
The following is only a partial list of the types of pain we treat: Back, Head, Neck and Shoulder Pain, Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Post Surgical Pain, Sciatica, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Headaches and Migraines.
Upon completion of our program, patients may participate in a relapse prevention component called the Masters Program. Classes are offered in the areas of pool, recreation, meditation, nutrition and a pain lecture series. These classes offer opportunities to maintain social connections as well as reinforcing structure and support.
