Our 40-bed Rehabilitation Unit provides intensive rehabilitation therapy for patients recovering from debilitating conditions or traumatic injuries. Involving the expertise of over a dozen different specialties, we help hundreds of Southern Californians return to school, work and the joys of everyday life.

Our success can be measured by our exceptional outcomes: although most of our patients are admitted at a lower level of functioning, our discharge-to-home rate is significantly higher than both the regional and national average. Put simply, our patients typically return to a full and rewarding life with fewer delays.

Unique Features

  • Our rehabilitation treatment team meets every week to discuss strategies and review the progress of all cases in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Family members and patients are invited to attend.
  • Treatment plans involve numerous specialties – including neuropsychologists, rehabilitation medicine specialists, physical therapists, language pathologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nutritionists and medical social workers – and address a patient’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs.
  • An extensive range of specialized services teach patients how to manage everyday aspects of their lives again, reenter the community and regain their independence. From driver training and work site assessment to spiritual care and peer support groups, we offer one of the state’s most comprehensive array of services.
  • Each patient is assigned a case manager to help coordinate his or her treatment, provide a smooth transition from one level of care to another, and assist the family with issues or concerns, such as communicating with insurance companies.
  • Our recreational therapists help patients continue their favorite hobbies, whether gardening or fishing, as well as learn new ones. Patients have the opportunity to learn a full range of adaptive sports, including snow skiing, sailing and tennis.
  • Families actively participate in the recovery process and receive education, support and counseling, as well as help in preparing for a patient’s return home.
  • Structured classes in a variety of pursuits – such as Tai Chi, crafts and computer skills – help patients develop new interests and rebuild their confidence.
  • Regular community outings, accompanied by physical and occupational therapists, give patients the opportunity to practice new skills at shopping centers, bowling alleys and other public places.
  • After discharge, coordinated rehabilitation services are provided to patients in their home. Services focus on day-to-day function and problem solving within the home environment and returning to community involvement.

Patients may be discharged to outpatient or day treatment programs, or may be transferred to our Transitional Care Unit. This 22-bed Unit cares for patients who no longer need acute or intensive therapy but still require skilled nursing assistance, often eliminating the need for patients to move into a convalescent hospital before going home.
