We offer breastfeeding classes both before and after the baby is born to help ensure you and your baby get off to the best possible start.

Breastfeeding Part I: Getting Started

Babies are born to be breastfed and this prenatal class offers practical information and tips to help you succeed. Learn latching and positioning techniques, how to establish or increase an abundant milk supply, signs of success and how to avoid or treat common breastfeeding concerns. In-depth discussion about the first days of feeding, the importance of skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in at the hospital to learn and respond to your baby's hunger cues. The main focus of this class is the early weeks and months of nursing.

Parents leave this class feeling more confident in their ability to nourish their newborn and to make informed feeding choices. This one-time class may be taken after the 20th week of pregnancy. Your spouse or partner is encouraged to attend.

Breastfeeding Part II: Pumping and Storage of Breast Milk

Whether you are preparing to return to work or just thinking about expressing your breast milk for an occasional bottle, this class will help you get started. Topics covered include: establishing and maintaining an abundant milk supply, introducing a bottle, breast pump options and accessories, tips and techniques for milk expression, safe storage of breast milk and combining working and nursing. You may take this class either before or after the birth of your baby, and babies are welcome to attend.

Breastfeeding Workshop

Having difficulty getting breastfeeding off to a good start? Confused by what you've heard from others? The Breastfeeding Workshop is designed with you in mind. Taught by a nurse skilled in lactation, this class will help you through the early problems often associated with breastfeeding. Your lactation nurse will watch you nurse your baby and will address any problems or concerns. This is an excellent support group for breastfeeding mothers. Mother and baby only, please.
