A new treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. A new drug therapy for diabetes. New medications to manage cholesterol levels. These are some of the promising new treatments that physicians and researchers at the St. Jude Heritage Medical Group are testing. "Some of the work being done here will help develop the standard of care for years to come," explains John Gilbert, M.D., Medical Director of Research and Development. For years, our doctors have been helping medicine advance through clinical trials, the final stage of the medical research process to test promising new drugs and treatments. Required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), clinical trials are considered the safest way to find new therapies, drugs and procedures that work.
The clinical trials at the Bastanchury, Harbor and Yorba Linda medical offices are open to all our patients. "We are looking at solutions to some very common health problems," explains Dr. Gilbert. "Heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and high cholesterol affect hundreds of our patients, and these clinical trials allow patients to try new, cutting-edge treatments before they are available to the general public."
All study-related medications, lab testing and medical monitoring are provided free of charge. In addition, participants may be reimbursed for their time and travel.
