Our Mission and History Print E-mail

The Sisters of St. Joseph came to California in the early 1900’s to teach. But when their community was devastated by a virulent influenza epidemic, they stayed to heal. What began as simple charity – caring for sick and dying in their homes – would grow into a health care ministry that would touch millions of lives.

Nearly 50 years after founding St. Jude Medical Center, the Sisters remain a vital part of its day-to-day operations. Their leadership, influence and commitment are reflected in every area, from minor decisions to strategic 10-year goals.

Mission
To extend the healing ministry of Jesus in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange by continually improving the health and quality of life of the people in the communities we serve.
