A Leader in Bringing State-of-the-art Technology to Orange County
St. Jude Medical Center is the first hospital in Orange County to offer a remarkable new advance: integrated PET/CT imaging. This highly sophisticated technology joins the best of both imaging techniques – positron emission tomography (PET) and computer tomography (CT) – into one system, ensuring unprecedented accuracy, clarity and precision in areas from cardiology to oncology.
“This new technology is significantly more accurate than any of the previously used image methods in determining if cancer is present, its growth and precise location, and assessing treatment success,” explains Robert Morten, M.D., Medical Director of Imaging Services. “Put simply, it will allow us to treat cancer more effectively.”
The integrated PET/CT is among the $8 million in state-of-the-art technology housed within St. Jude Medical Center’s Fetters Diagnostic Imaging Center, the county’s most sophisticated hospital-based imaging facility. “By bringing together some of the most exciting developments in diagnostic imaging today,” explains Tom Gervaise, Manager of the Fetters Diagnostic Imaging Center, “we can offer patients a level of quality not available elsewhere.”
Located on the first floor of the St. Jude Medical Plaza, the imaging center also includes the latest generation MRI technology; high-speed, multi-slice CT scanner; and digital “filmless” radiography, allowing high quality images within minutes. The speed and sophistication of the new technology ensures patients are in and out quickly, and equally important, provides physicians immediate access to results via their office computer or laptop.
