Excellence in emergency stroke care
St. Jude Medical Center has been recognized for excellence in emergency stroke care on the Target: Stroke Honor Roll by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. St. Jude is one of a select group of hospitals in the U.S., and one of only three in California, to make the list. Launched in February 2010, Target: Stroke is designed to improve outcomes for patients with ischemic strokes, the most common type related to blocked or reduced blood flow, by helping hospitals achieve door-to-needle times of 60 minutes or less for the administration of rt-PA to eligible patients. Recognition on the Target: Stroke Honor Roll involves consistently achieving multiple gold standard time targets for emergency stroke care.
Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program
St. Jude Heritage Medical Group oncologists and hematologists at the Virginia K. Crosson Cancer Center are among the first in the nation to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program is a new initiative to certify oncology practices that meet rigorous standards for high-quality cancer care.
Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award
St. Jude Medical Center was awarded the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes St. Jude's success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. St. Jude is one of only a handful of hospitals in Orange County to achieve this designation, which demonstrates St. Jude's commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care.
Accreditation by the NAPBC
The St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center was one of only eight facilities in the state to receive accreditation from the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to those centers committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. Each breast center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach that encourages optimal care and the most effective treatment options available.
"3 star" rating for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft
St. Jude Medical Center's Cardiac Services received a "3 star" rating for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) procedures, the highest possible ranking, from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Developed to provide a comprehensive nationwide system of cardiac surgery performance, only 12 percent of hospitals in the U.S. receive the "3 star" designation.
Six "exemplary" designations
St. Jude Centers for Rehabilitation received accreditation with six "exemplary" designations from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). St. Jude is one of only two hospitals in the state to receive accreditation in pain management, and one of only five in Southern California to receive accreditation in both spinal cord and brain injury. Of the small percentage of rehabilitation facilities who successfully receive accreditation, very few receive one or more "exemplary" designations.
Accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation
St. Jude Medical Center's Laboratory and Respiratory Therapy Departments have been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). St. Jude is one of a select group that has been evaluated and found to be in compliance with the CAP's rigorous standards, designed to help ensure quality patient safety and care. CAP is the most respected and recognized accreditation program in the world and has long been considered the "gold standard" against which others are measured.
The Blue Distinction® is a designation awarded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to hospitals that have demonstrated expertise in delivering the highest quality cardiac care. By earning this designation, St. Jude demonstrated its ability to meet stringent clinical criteria as well as its commitment to outstanding care, resulting in better overall outcome for cardiac patients.
Best Nursing Team 2010
ADVANCE for Nurses magazine awarded St. Jude Medical Center the Best Nursing Team 2010. St. Jude was nominated for the award for successfully creating a best practice in the skin care of hospitalized patients, which included a 60 percent reduction in pressure ulcers.
