2009 Accreditations & Accomplishments

Approval with Commendation
The St. Jude Crosson Comprehensive Cancer Center received Approval with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. This distinction is awarded only to facilities that have undergone a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance, and demonstrated a proven commitment to offering the highest quality cancer care.

Stroke-Neurology Receiving Center
St. Jude was designated as a Stroke-Neurology Receiving Center for Orange and Los Angeles Counties. This designation ensures 24-hour availability of neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists and emergency medicine physicians who are experts in caring for stroke patients.

Primary Stroke Center
The Joint Commission designated St. Jude Medical Center as a Primary Stroke Center, a nationally recognized achievement which honors those hospitals that meet its exacting standards for the treatment of stroke and make exceptional efforts to foster better patient outcomes.

St. Jude earned 3-year accreditation by The Joint Commission
By meeting the highest national standards in patient safety and quality of care, St. Jude earned 3-year accreditation by The Joint Commission. The accreditation is based on the results of an unannounced on-site survey. Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation.

Recognized as a national leader
St. Jude Medical Center was recognized as a national leader in using information technology to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes. HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Analytics placed St. Jude in the top 1.6 percent of the nation's hospitals in effectively using electronic medical records and other information technology to benefit patient care. HIMSS is the industry standard for evaluating hospitals' use of information technology systems.

Top Performer by Integrated Healthcare Association
St. Jude Heritage Medical Group was named a Top Performer by Integrated Healthcare Association, a statewide leadership group that promotes quality improvement, accountability and affordability of healthcare in California. After comparing the state's medical groups in clinical quality, patient experience and the use of information technology, St. Jude Heritage was recognized as being among the best.
